Eddy County Volunteer Fire Departments

Eddy County operates twelve volunteer fire districts. Included
in these districts are twenty fire stations and sixty-five pieces of apparatus.

Interested in becoming a member of an Eddy
County volunteer fire department?
Active
membership requirements:

An applicant must be eighteen years of age or older. The member must
be a resident, be employed, or have a substantial regular presence within
the boundaries of the fire protection district.

An applicant shall submit an application for membership on a standard
county application form.

All applicants may be required to have a background investigation conducted
on their employment,
character,
police record, and credit history by the county sheriff's department.

The applicant must be willing to answer fire and emergency alarms, attend
meetings, drills, practices, training sessions, and have a desire to advance
to the certification of Firefighter I and II.

A member may be an active member of several different departments at the
same time, as long as each affected department is aware of this fact and
the applicant is accepted by each department.

An applicant for membership may be asked to submit to an examination relative
to his physical and mental fitness to perform the duties of a firefighter.
If a physical is deemed to be necessary and or required, the county manager's
office shall arange for a physical with the county physician in either
Carlsbad or Artesia, and the cost of the physical will be paid for by the
county fire department.
